"With the first of six conference games just one week away, the tigers were forced to go all out to defeat a stubborn Louisiana Tech team in the annual "Homecoming" game. With the Tech Line playing the Plainsmen off their feet during the first half, some of 11,000 students and "old grads" watched the Voyles- coached eleven come back with two touchdowns in the last half to clinch the game. In the third quarter Billy Ball raced 45 yards for the first Tiger score, and onto the last play of the game Travis Tidwell tossed a beautiful pass to lanky Bill Waddail for the final Auburn Touchdown. Freddie Gafford, Phillip Poundstone, Alt. Capt. Hal Herring, and big Johnnie Adcock played a great defensive ball game with Ball and Tidwell as the offensive stars for the Tigers."
