[Note: This game was played in Birmingham, with the program being jointly published by both schools and printed in Auburn.] " The Tigers Hit their Stride: It was a vengeful bunch of Auburn Tigers playing one of the greatest games in the history of Auburn Football that upset mighty Alabama 14-13 before 44,000 delirious fans in Legion Field, Birmingham. The Tigers entered the game determined to make amends for their last year's defeat, and before many minutes had ticked off it was evident that they would do so. With Auburn's terrific line play reducing the Crimson Tide to a mere trickle, Johnny Wallis intercepted a 'Bama pass and streaked eighteen yards down the sidelines for Auburn's first touchdown. The Tiger's second tally came down after Bill Davis bulled eleven yards for a touchdown to end a seventy-one yard drive. Tucker came through like a real veteran as he booted the game winning extra points. Alabama scored with a minute left to play in the first half and scored again in the final minute of the game. Tom Calvin and Eddie Salem scored for Alabama, but it was Salem who failed to make the point after touchdown in the last breathless seconds that gave Auburn its margin of victory. The play of the entire Auburn team was truly magnificent. As the Exhausted crowd filed away form Legion Field everyone knew that this was a fitting climax to a great comeback by the Auburn Tigers."
