Southern Blue Flag
An iris has 9 petal-like structures--3 sepals, 3 petals, and 3 stamens. The widest are the sepals. Next come the 3 narrower petals, and then the 3 stigmas in the middle. The stamens are under the stigmas, and the yellow marking on the sepals direct insects straight to the pollen.
