Summary: | Eric Mailander was a young man who wrote Eugene B. Sledge regarding Sledge's book With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa. Mailander stated in his letter that he was interested in the Pacific campaigns of World War II. He enjoyed Sledge's description of his combat experiences in the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa. Mailander then described his recent trip to Peleliu and described what the battlefields looked like at the time of his trip. He asked Sledge how he would react if he went back to Peleliu. Mailander mentioned his interest in WWII Japanese memorabilia and asked Sledge what souvenirs he collected. Sledge answered his letter with a letter of his own (see Sledge letter to Eric Mailander, 7-6-1982). |
