In the 1940s, Sledge corresponded with several mothers whose sons were killed in the Battles of Peleliu and Okinawa. The mothers wanted to know more about the battles that killed their sons. This is letter is a reply Mrs. Middlebrook wrote Sledge thanking him for his letter telling her about the Pacific campaign. Both her sons fought in the Pacific and one of them was killed.
