This "psalm" based on Psalm 23 was written by an anonymous student of Dr. Eugene B. Sledge, who was a professor of biology at the University of Montevallo. Sledge was a U.S. Marine Corps combat infantryman in World War II in the Pacific theater. After the war, he obtained his bachelor's degree and Master of Science degree in biology from Auburn University. He went on to obtain a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Florida and spent his career teaching biology at the University of Montevallo in Alabama. In later years, Sledge wrote a book about his combat experience called With The Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa. |
