| Summary: | Eugene B. Sledge wrote this letter to his mother on June 22, 1944 while on campaign with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. He let his mother know that he was sending a proper thank you to one of his friends' mothers for a package he received. He talked about hearing from another friend who was in the States enjoying life while he was stuck on an island in the Pacific. He asked after his brother and talked of his plans to tour Civil War battlefields with a buddy after the war. He wrote about how much he wanted chocolate and asked his mother to send some. He also asked his mother to send a particular magazine and gave her advice on the best way to package magazines for mailing. |
