Summary:This diploma for a Master of Science in Botany degree was awarded to Eugene B. Sledge by the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) on December 15, 1955. Sledge fought with the Marines in the Pacific in World War II. After the war, he attended Auburn and earned both a bachelor and a masters degree. After receiving his masters, he obtained a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Florida and went on to teach at the University of Montevallo. He wrote a book about his combat experiences called With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa.
