After the war, he earned a bachelor and master's degree from Auburn and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. He spent his career teaching biology at the University of Montevallo. Sledge wrote a critically acclaimed book about his combat experiences titled With The Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa. |
