Summary:This certificate from the United States Marine Corps certifies that Eugene B. Sledge served honorably in the Marine Corps in World War II and achieved the rank of corporal. Sledge enlisted in the Marines and began his service on December 3, 1942. He fought in the Pacific against the Japanese. At the end of the war, he was briefly stationed in China before receiving this certificate and leaving the Corps on February 15, 1946. Sledge would later write a book about his combat experiences called With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa.
