Sledge spent his academic career teaching biology at the University of Montevallo after getting his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1960. Sledge fought with the Marines in the Pacific in World War II and went to college after the war on the G.I. Bill. He later wrote a book about his combat experiences. |
