Description
Summary:In this memorandum book, written in late 1944, Eugene B. Sledge summarizes his involvement in the Battle of Peleliu. He then has three dated entries that tell how he spent his holidays back on Pavuvu following the battle. Sledge's January 1, 1945 entry includes an anecdote about his buddies stealing one of the turkeys from the mess hall, an incident he'd later include in With The Old Breed. On the title page of the book, Sledge has a disclaimer that this is not a diary because troops were not permitted to keep diaries.
