Summary: | The south wing of Athens Elementary School was constructed in the 1930s. In 1954, the east and west wings were added on to the school. The school was originally constructed for Athens Junior High School and was later used for elementary students. There were 320 students enrolled in kindergarten through fourth grade at the time it was established. The curriculum served children with mental disabilities ranging from mentally challenged to the gifted. The school is located at 515 North Madison Street, Athens, Alabama. |
