Wittel, the building first served as a boarding facility for professional women employed in Auburn and the private residence of the Wittel family. After the post-World War II enrollment spike at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, the university purchased the building to serve as a dormitory for the steadily increasing female portion of the student body. |
