Summary:These are photocopies and typescripts of letters (1861-64) from Charles H. George to his sisters, Mary J. and Mattie; and letters (1865-66) from Charles H. George's widow, Flora, to Mattie George. The George family lived in Griffin, Georgia where Rev. George was a minister of the Episcopal Church. In 1861, Charles H. George, enlisted in a Georgia regiment which was stationed near Norfolk, Virginia. In May 1862, he received a commission in a battalion of sharpshooters of the 5th Georgia Infantry, stationed in Mississippi. He served in Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia, and died of wounds received during the Atlanta Campaign.
