I suppose you would ask why of this I should speak and why this young man was taken from camp.
It was sickness that that caus it the Surgeon Then said to the Hospital He must go where better care can be had

Friday, Sept. 23, 1864
I enlisted into the United States servace went into Camp Berry the same nite tride to get a pas to go over to
Sitty but could not Stade there as long as I wanted to
I enlisted for the 7th ME Batery And left Camp Berry the 12 of Oct. march over to the Sitty went A bord of a
steamer got to Boston the next morning went on shore march down on another warf went on bord of another
Steamer got to Galops Isle the same day which was the 13th left the Steamer went on shore went into Good
Barakes had a nice Sargent drilled one hour every day had a dance at nite in the Barakes nice time.

We left Sunday the 16 on a big Transport did not feal verry well the first and second day the 3 day sick enough I
tell you have up Jonah 3 or four times every hour that is plesant Thursday we entered the James River
Wednesday we the James River stop that nite in the Bulpin at Sitty Point March up to the batery at Fort
Welch darn glad boys we was to and was welcome to the Batery
We were then set to work for a day or to Slep under a Polan enjoyed our self well till we were asined to our
detachment I was put in the first detachment went up to the fort then we driled to hours every day on the
guns stuck there to or three weaks then moved to another fort half a mile further on the lift stop long enoug
to get Good tents
Built had a move back to Fort Welch again stop there and built nice quarters Staid there till about the 27
of Nov. Started on a march march 3 days Got in Fort hell Nov. 30
The Boys build winter quarters and enjoy them selves nice there is a great deal of firing in Fort Hell
this month which is Nov. dec so I will comence on another year.

Memoranda
Friday, Sept. 23, 1864
I enlisted into the United States servace went into Camp Berry the same nite tride to get a pas to go over to
Sitty but could not Stade there as long as I wanted to
I enlisted for the 7th ME Batery And left Camp Berry the 12 of Oct. march over to the Sitty went A bord of a
steamer got to Boston the next morning went on shore march down on another warf went on bord of another
Steamer got to Galops Isle the same day which was the 13th left the Steamer went on shore went into Good
Barakes had a nice Sargent drilled one hour every day had a dance at nite in the Barakes nice time.

We left Sunday the 16 on a big Transport did not feal verry well the first and second day the 3 day sick enough I
tell you have up Jonah 3 or four times every hour that is plesant Thursday we entered the James River
Wednesday we the James River stop that nite in the Bulpin at Sitty Point March up to the batery at Fort
Welch darn glad boys we was to and was welcome to the Batery
We were then set to work for a day or to Slep under a Polan enjoyed our self well till we were asined to our
detachment I was put in the first detachment went up to the fort then we driled to hours every day on the
guns stuck there to or three weaks then moved to another fort half a mile further on the lift stop long enoug
to get Good tents
Built had a move back to Fort Welch again stop there and built nice quarters Staid there till about the 27
of Nov. Started on a march march 3 days Got in Fort hell Nov. 30
The Boys build winter quarters and enjoy them selves nice there is a great deal of firing in Fort Hell
this month which is Nov. dec so I will comence on another year.
