Elder John Britt of Bevin to Miss Elizabeth Taylor of the former place.
The deacon tired of single life. Thought he would try out for a wife.
The trial made he did first rate in choosing Betsy for his mate.

Mrs. Scott’s funeral
Warm & pleasant, it rained some. Father and mother went to St. Thomas Town visiting in the evening.
Will went to Andes in the p.m. A Wieall and R. Biggar married.

Clear, pleasant. Father and mother went over to Strangeways visiting.
I went up to Bruthland, stayed all night at Walters.
Saturday, 25th
Went down home with Uncle Walter’s folks. Clear and pleasant in the a.m.
Went up with uncles folks in the evening. Rainy night, stayed all night. R. Hay buried.
Sunday, 26th
Went to church, sleepy, going to Mr. Lees teached text in Jeremiah 31st chapter and 19 verse,
came home to night. Cleared up and froze.

Clear and pleasant, thawed some. James Brown came over in the p.m. Went up to Amoses visiting,
also spelling (?) school at night.
Tuesday, 28th
Snowed in the a.m. rather cold. Cahouns folks and poor Elliot and Elizabeth Cavin
came a visiting in the evening. Will went to Jacks office.

Rather cold and cloudy in the a.m. Cleared up in the p.m.
Will went to Andes after his overcoat in the evening.
Thursday, 2nd
Cold with south wind. Started for Annapolis.
Will took me to Dill’s stayed all night at Darnell’s. Took the Lansack (?) stage in the morning.
Friday, 3rd
Took the stage for Hancock, got there about 1 ½ o’clock, rained some,
took the _____express for Jersey City.
Saturday, March 4, 1865
Got to Jersey City about 4 o’clock took the 8 o’clock express for Baltimore got to Baltimore at 9 o’clock, took the 6 o’clock train for Annapolis, got to the parole camp at 8 ½ o’clock. Lincoln inaugurated.

Reported to the hospital. Clear and pleasant in the a.m. Cloudy in the p.m.
Monday, 6th
Clear and quite warm all day, wrote a letter to father. Several of the patients got furlough.
Tuesday, 7th
Clear but windy and quite cold. Went up to the bushes for the first time.
Nothing of interest transpired. Clouded up in the evening and looked like a storm. Ward Master died.
Wednesday, March 8, 1865
Cloudy and quite cool in the a.m. Rained some in the p.m. Removed to Annapolis.
Stayed all night at the general hospital.
Thursday, 9th
Got aboard the U.S. Hospital Boat and went to Baltimore. Admitted into Peterson Park Hospital.
Cloudy and wet.
Friday, 10th
Cold and snowed a little. Examined by the doctor.

Clear and pleasant. Answered Will’s letters. President Lincoln shot through the head in the theatre
at Washington at nine o’clock at night, escape of the murder[er]. Seward also shot.

Cloudy and dull, rained some. President Lincoln died at 4 o’clock this morning.

Cloudy and dull. Got to NY at 8 o’clock. Detained one half hour by the train running off the track.
Took the 7 o’clock train for Hancock. Paid $4.65 for my ticket.
Wednesday, 7th
Warm and dusty. Took the Delhi stage, paid $1 for ticket, got to Delhi at 5 o’clock.
Went to John McNee’s, staid all night.
Thursday, 8th
Clear and very warm. Did not go home. Wrote a letter to Riggs. Got a bottle of medicine.

Wilson McNee took me home. Showery all day. Father got the returns for the spring butter which

Cleared up and pleasant day, the bees swarmed in the p.m. I did not go to meeting.

Clear and warm, bought cloth for a vest and pair of pants at 18 shilling per yard, also got some handkerchiefs.

Clear and warm in the a.m. Went up to Brushland, got my pants and vest cut, charge 30 cents.
Clouded up and rained in the p.m. A third swarm of bees came off.
Sunday, 25th
Warm and pleasant. No preaching at Lee’s church. Our folks went to Andes.
Monday, 26th
Cloudy and looked like rain. Finished hoeing the corn and potatoes. Commence raining about ten o’clock.
Net went over to Andes. Wat. Amos came again to ask to his raising. Walter came after money.

Clear and pleasant with a south wind. One year ago to day since I was taken prisoner by the rebels
near Storny Creek.

George came over to tape his boots. Chisholms came up visiting. Sunday school celebration at Bovina.

Clear and warm. Went over to Andes to the celebration. Samuel Storie came down the night before and went with us.
The Rev. James Brase the orator of the day.
Wednesday, July 5, 1865
Clear and pleasant with a high wind. Will washed the work harnesses. Father went to the post office.
The girls went down to Chisholms in the evening.
Thursday, 6th
Clear and pleasant in the a.m. Commenced mowing in the field above the barn. Clouded up and looked like rain
in the p.m. Will went to Andes in the evening.
Took the wool over to Blakie’s. I went down to Elliotts.
Friday, 7th
Clear and windy. Rigged up the wagon in the a.m. Raked and collected the field above the barn in the p.m.
Jane went to the Huddle in the evening to get her dress pleated.
Saturday, 8th
Cloudy and looked like rain in the morning but cleared up before noon. Mowed in the hay barn field.
Took in the field above the barn, had four loads. Jane came home from the Huddle.

Clear and pleasant, went up to the Huddle after Walter. Jane came home from Cabin Hill.

Tuesday, 11th
Wet and rainy. Walter went over to Andes in the a.m. Dull and cloudy all day. Did not mow any to day.

Cloudy and dull. Mowed in the field below the wagon house in the a.m. Raked the orchard and above in the p.m.

Clear and pleasant. A good hay day, drew in the orchard and above it, 7 loads. Deacon Raitt married to Betsey Taylor.
Friday, 14th
Clear and quite cool. Deacon Raitt in fair. Took 7 loads of hay. The 44th came from Hancock.

Dull morning, commenced raining about 10 o’clock but cleared up in the p.m. Mowed on the top of the hill.
Wednesday, 26th
Cloudy and dull all the forenoon. Rained some in the p.m. drew in 3 loads of hay. Finished mowing.
Father went to the shop in the evening.
