I got the sample [text missing] shall keep a look out for [text missing] pants I may find them on [text missing] body. I do regret very - [text missing]h losing them. from the fact [text missing] had stuck to the piece of cloth so long, and it was a part - of a lot captured from the - Yankees. I took the box from the express office myself and did not notice that it had been opened until I had taken it a way. I have no doubt but what it was broken open by the guard after it got to Tullahoma as It staid in the office guarded two or three days before I found out it had come. I said in my last letter I would send back the receipt but forgot to en- close it I will try and think of it this time. I had heard about the sale of the Shields [page 2] place and the Tobacco, a[text missing] also about Colquitt place b[text missing] for sale. I am not fami[text missing] with this land and do not [text missing] know whether it would [text missing] us [illegible] or if it is good [text missing] and [illegible] and [text missing] to rocky and broken. I would [text missing] to have it but I would [text missing, illegible] have no land than a poor or [illegible] place. I will trust your judgement on it and Dr Brownfields. I believe he will treat me right and fair. I will try and send you some money by Mr - Culver. When he goes home which will be about next Monday and I will also try and send some clothing that I will not need through the summer and might lose before winter. I will give you a list when I send them.
