Dear Fannie. I wrote the enclosed letter expecting
to send it to you several days ago, but have
not had the chance. I think I can send this
off tomorrow by a negro boy. I am now
on picket on the rail road about one
mile from Fairburn. Our army is about
two miles north of Palmetto. I am doing
as well as I can under the circumstances, have
just eaten a fill of potatoes and feel first
rate
So our move that bothered us so much
has proven to be a move to this place. we are
now fortifying here and all these preparations
make it appear that an attack is expected
from the enemy here. I have not time to
finish – now I will write you again soon
Give my love to all
