Eugene Hamiter Graves was a student at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama (now Auburn University). He received his B.S. degree in 1892. He was from Eufaula, Ala. He was a member of the school's first football team in 1892. Graves went on to serve in the Spanish American War and in WWI. He attained the rank of colonel. He later became a two term mayor of Eufaula, AL. Graves had two children, a son. E.H. Graves Jr., and a daughter, Connie Graves, who later attended Auburn in the 1940s. He died in 1937 at the age of 67. Male students were called cadets and participated in military training in addition to their studies. They were required to wear gray military uniforms.
