Summary: | These men were students at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama (now Auburn University) circa 1890. They are shown studying in the library on the third floor of Samford Hall. Dr. Charles Coleman Thach, seated at the table, was a professor at A + M and later president of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (also now Auburn University) from 1902-1920. He was President Emeritus from 1920-1921. Male students were called cadets and participated in military training in addition to their studies. They were required to wear gray military uniforms.
