Henry Hearst Kyser was a student at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama (now Auburn University) in the early 1890s. He was the oldest son of Samuel Dennis Kyser and Mary Powe Kyser and came from Talledega, Alabama. He received his B.S. degree in 1895 and his M.E. degree in 1896. The following year he took a post graduate post and taught at Auburn until 1901. From 1901 until 1903 he was an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Clemson College, South Carolina. Leaving there he took a post graduate course at the University of Wisconsin. Here the excellence of his work led to his being transferred to Chicago where he spent two years in special research. In 1808 he accepted a position as technical expert and high efficiency man with the Birmingham Railway, Light and Power Company, which culminated in his sad and tragic death. On the afternoon of May 8, 1914, he burned to death trying to escape the company's office building. Male students at Auburn were called cadets and participated in military training in addition to their studies. They were required to wear gray military uniforms. Kyser was Adjutant of the Corps of Cadets. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Auburn University Libraries Cataloging Dept. at caudlda@auburn.edu. |
