Description
Summary:In this 1968 recording from the Auburn University campus, State Senators Tom Radney and Alton Turner are joined by Auburn Professor Glen Eaves and Auburn student Jimmy Ford to discuss academic freedom on college campuses. The panel discussion occurred at 9 am on February 23, 1968.The panel discussionwas part of the 1968 Auburn Conference on International Affairs (ACOIA) 1968. The theme of ACOIA 1968 was 'The international year of human rights.'ACOIA was aregional conference, originally sponsored by the Auburn University StudentSenate, on international affairs and social issues. Each conference focusedon a specific theme and typically featured 5-10 speakers over a two- tothree-day period. Circa 1970, the conference's format was changed to a seriesof speeches over a two- to three-month period; around the same time, theconference's purview was expanded to include domestic issues. In thatconnection, the conference's name was changed from 'Auburn Conference onInternational Affairs' to 'Horizons' in 1971. The Horizonslectures were organized by students on the Horizons Committee of theUniversity Program Council (UPC) in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
