Description
Summary:The following segments are included: 0:00:01: Jim Folsom, possibly with legislators at the Capitol. 0:00:21: George Wallace speaking at a campaign rally in Childersburg, Alabama. In the speech, he discusses road and bridge building projects; the textile industry; river development; communism; reapportionment; federal courts and intervention; farmers' markets; industrial development; segregation; unnecessary personal spending by government officials; and funding for education and the elderly. 0:08:24: Scenes in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, including downtown; Farrah Hall (School of Law) at the University of Alabama; a campaign sign for Ryan DeGraffenried; and a house in a neighborhood (possibly the home of DeGraffenried). 0:08:55: Ryan DeGraffenried speaking at campaign rallies. In the speeches discusses his opponent, George Wallace, critiquing his response to federal agents; his own service in the state legislature, specifically contributions to the state's resistance to school integration; rumors spread by his political opponents, who claimed that DeGraffenried represented Autherine Lucy ("I don't appreciate too much people going around saying that sort of thing because that's not necessary in a political campaign") and that he is Catholic ("I haven't got a thing in the world against the Catholics . . . It just so happens, however, that I'm a Presbyterian"); and his chances of winning the election. (The footage switches to a different location at 0:55:43.)
