Description
Summary:Raw footage shot for "River in the Valley," a documentary produced by Charles Cox of WSFA-TV to promote the development of Alabama's waterways. Included are archival images of steamboats; scenes of rivers, dams, and vessels around the state; an animation in which rivers are drawn on an outline of Alabama; and statements by political figures such as Governor George Wallace, Congressman Kenneth Roberts, and representatives of the Georgia Port Authority and the Water Improvement Commission. Industrial growth is cited as the ultimate aim of river development endeavors, though one speaker does stress the need for anti-pollution legislation to keep the state's waters clean.
