"Because You Care," promotional film for the United Appeal, presented by Montgomery United Community Services. The film begins with a brief history of the city before explaining the collaborative collection of funds to be distributed to different charitable causes in the area ("One campaign a year is the sensible way. Now you give once for all"). The following organizations or initiatives are mentioned: American Cancer Society; American Red Cross; Boy's Club; Boy Scouts; Child Care Council; Hot Lunch Fund; Milk Fund; Children's Home; Community House for Negroes; Shoe Fund; Emergency Hospital Committee; Girl Counts; the tuberculosis sanitorium; Mental Health Society; School for Spastic Children; USO; Salvation Army; Working Woman's Home; YMCA; Travelers Aid Society; YMCA; various veterans' organizations; YWCA, and Society for Crippled Children. The film features footage shot around Montgomery, including structures and locations such as the Confederate monument at the Capitol; Court Square and the surrounding downtown area; the Walter Bragg Smith Apartments; Huntingdon College; and Garrett Coliseum. During an early scene depicting an enslaved man moving a bale of cotton, the choir from Alabama State College can be heard singing in the background.
