Summary: | In his letter Stapleton explains the needs of a widow in his district, who has requested that one of her three sons be granted a furlough to return home long enough to harvest the family's crop and treat their cattle for ticks, since there is "no one at home to do this work, and labor being so scarce they are unable to hire the work done." The executive secretary of the state council replies that while the agency cannot intervene in all leave requests, "this is an instance where the State Council can assist in preserving food supplies which are so necessary in the war." Also included is the letter the secretary sent to the son's commanding officer, which repeats the details of the request. |
