He discusses a "Welcome Home" banner from Alabama that he received after his release and mentions that he never heard of any anti-war sentiment in the state while he was imprisoned: "During the time I was a guest at the 'Hanoi Hilton' never once did I personally hear anyone from our home State speak out against our efforts in Viet Nam, engage in anti-war protests or do anything which was detrimental to our welfare while in captivity." A photograph of Pirie with the banner is included. |
