In this letter (written from a hospital in France and incorrectly dated 4 August 1918), Stout explains that he is recovering well and that the bandages on his right hand have been removed, making it easier to write: "Please remember that this is very simple wound and I am neither in pain nor uncomfortable, and I'll soon be entirely well."
