Summary: | Smith served as an overseer on Willis P. Bocock's Waldwick Plantation in Marengo County, Alabama. The book records an inventory of the slaves, livestock, and equipment on the plantation; births and deaths among the slaves; time lost for sickness and visits by the doctor; articles sold from and purchased for the plantation; the amount of cotton picked by each slave and the number of bales shipped; rainy days throughout the year; and information about livestock and other crops. Also included is an account book listing the clothing, housewares, and food (sugar and coffee only) distributed to the slaves' households; the accounts are arranged by individual or married couple. |
