Description
Summary:In the letter Oliver discusses politics and recommends Bolling Hall for a seat in the U.S. Congress: "Instead of the bloody battle field with gallant leaders to marshal our host, we must take the halls where state craft and political intrigue will win the fight. The issue considerably modified has to be made yet to complete the drama to its last scene. Black Republicans Radicals ...make one party to the issue - Andy Johnson, the Democratic Party and the south the other. It behooves every citizen of Ala to do his best to restore his state to its sovereign position by sending the very best man to congress to represent us....Major Boling [sic] Hall of this place is a candidate for congress. He is a prudent and sagacious man, with vast knowledge and a quick perception of the scope and bearing of any question of policy. In short he is one of the clearest and deepest thinkers I know."
