Summary:During the Civil War, Davis served as a colonel in the 24th Alabama Infantry regiment. In the letter he discusses mutual acquaintances who are ill or have been wounded, noting "what pain and anguish of heart has been endured on account of this unjust and unholy crusade against the South. Oh, would to God that it were at an end." He also mentions that he is sending home two servants who have been sick, and he urges his wife to "be very careful about the measles and try to prevent them from getting into our family."
