Summary:From June 1862 to November 1863, Bolling and John Hall served in 2nd Battalion, Hilliard's Legion. In the first letter, written July 12, 1862, John discusses the journey to their current location; though they arrived safely, two men in another battalion died in accidents: "Col. Thorington had one of his men killed coming up on the cars & had another run over & cut half in to after we got here." He also describes the new "beautiful camp with a plenty of good cool water": "I think the place is too good for us to stay long." In the second letter, written July 13, Bolling explains that they are leaving immediately for service in Chattanooga. The letters are written on the same sheet of paper. A transcription is included.
