Summary: | During the Civil War, James Hall served as a captain in Company K of the 24th Alabama Infantry regiment. In this letter he discusses a tent he had asked his father to send; his plans to find a position for his younger brother ("I would dislike very much for Tom to have to go in the ranks and shall make every endeavor to get him a commissioned office"); the construction of forts near Chattanooga; and a personal debt that his father is going to settle. He also asks that another young brother be allowed to visit: "If you can spare Hines let him come up on a short visit to rub off some of the green. You have kept him too close at home and this trip will do him good." A transcription is included. |
