Summary:During the Civil War, James Hall served as a captain in Company K of the 24th Alabama Infantry regiment. In the letter he discusses the reenlistment of soldiers in his company: "I am happy to inform you that 31 of the 40 of my men in camp have reenlisted, besides Lts Wood Myrick and myself. Nearly the whole of our Division has been listed. My men reenlisted unconditionally, expressing their willingness to abide by any thing congress says." He also mentions the soldier who will be delivering this letter, asking his father to assist the young man on his journey. A transcription is included.
