Description
Summary:During the Civil War, James Hall served as a captain in Company K of the 24th Alabama Infantry regiment. In the letter he explains that his servant has arrived with the food his family sent ("It was as welcome as twas unexpected by me. It came in good time for the other eatables I brought with me were just giving out"). He mentions the "hum-drum of camp life" and money he had given to his father on behalf of other people. James also encloses a poem written by Lieutenant Colonel B. F. Sawyer, honoring his brother Thomas Brown Hall, who was mortally wounded in the Battle of Chickamauga. A transcription is included.
