Summary:From July 1862 to November 1863, Crenshaw Hall was adjutant of the 2nd Battalion, Hilliard’s Legion. The reorganization of Hilliard's Legion (described in this letter) became official on November 25, 1863. Following reorganization, Crenshaw was the adjutant of the 59th Alabama Infantry regiment. In the letter he also discusses current troop movements; possible upcoming campaigns; his servant, whom he sent home to get clothing for the soldiers ("We have been unfortunate in Jeres [sic] trip as he didn’t get back when I told him but I hope he will yet come round safe"); and his brother Bolling, who was wounded in battle ("Tell Bolling I regret his absence just at this time but he will have to endure it. His old Battalion is longing for him back"). A transcription is included.
