Description
Summary:The order addresses seven issues: 1) the appointment of a "chief bugler" and the specific schedule for bugle calls to be sounded throughout the day; 2) daily reports from orderly sergeants; 3) responsibilities of men on guard duty and the supplies they are to carry with them ("are not on any pretense to revisit their quarters or leave the vicinity of Guard House until relieved"); 4) the inspection and care of company horses ("The Com'dg Officer will be held strictly responsible for the grooming & care and attention to their horses...and have everything done for them, that can benefit them in the least, for without good horses the Comd is helpless & useless"); 5) the penalty for non-commissioned officers on unauthorized leave ("shall be reduced to the rank, and their places filled by competent and deserving soldiers at once"); 6) the mandatory return of corn sacks; and 7) the need for all officers and soldiers to cooperate with Major Hotchkiss "in assisting him to make this as efficient as any Artilery [sic] Battn in the service, in enforcing...everything that tends to the health, comfort and good order of their Batteries, for without their assistance he can do nothing, and the Batteries of this Division will lose the good name they have so long borne in this war".
