Description
Summary:Both men served on the Georgia-Alabama Survey Commission; Lewis represented Alabama, and Blount represented Georgia. In the letter Blount reports that the commissioners have "clos'd the boundary line." He describes specific points along the line, which he believes "will stand the test of honest and impartial investigation, & the strictest scrutiny." He also mentions that the project has been expensive, and he criticizes Alabama for not fully sharing the responsibilities with Georgia: "She anticipated the cooperation of Alabama in the labor and in the expences and altho she by her commissioners, has declined any participation in the expences, yet I consider her bound in honor to reimburse a part, if she ever intended to bear any part - Why did she employ no surveyor - no hands and make no preparation for such an extensive journey thro a forest? Suspicion attaches to this part of her conduct until her future liberality shall remove it." A transcription is included. [Original spelling retained.]
