Description
Summary:In the letter Lee explains that he has been very ill and that he hopes to travel "below Mobile with intention of a restoration of health." He cannot afford the trip, however, so he asks Caller to lend him some money: "I cannot get the necessaries I may want without and it would not do me to be quite out of cash in a Spanish neighborhood." He promises to "repay in kind, in service and with gratitude," and he also offer's to send Caller's wife some oysters. In one postscript he adds that "I am so very weak and cold that I can hardly write"; in another he explains that "the mail will come too late for my purpose" and therefore asks if Caller "can spare me 30 or 40 lbs. of Bacon" instead of the money.
