In the letter he discusses the health of friends and relatives who are in the army ("John is fat an sasey" but "uncle mat has gone to the hospitle he aught to a bin sent thar a long ago"); he also mentions a sore on his arm that might become infected: "I have got a very sor arm yet...it tis be tween the sise of a silver dollar an half dollar the proud flesh has grode in it an has been all the time...I am a frade the arensiplas [erysipelas] will get in it it tis in camps ." Jones adds that he has heard no news of upcoming battles, and he hopes that "tha wont nuver will bee a nother." [Original spelling retained.] |
