In the letter he discusses money that he and several other men are planning to send home; they are unable to go themselves, so they are sending it by a man they do not know, who will leave it with a local judge for the families to collect. He also encourages his wife to attend church regularly, and he asks his friends and family to pray for him: "O my loving wife i want you to chiss my sweet litle babe as often as he can bar it tak him to meeten an lurn him how to bee have him self...i want you to go to meeten as often as you can an pray for mee ever time you go tell all of my friends to pray for mee pray that i may get home again but if i dont pray that i may meete thim high up in heven wher parten is now moore."
