Description
Summary:During the Civil War, Jones served in Company G of the 41st Alabama Infantry Regiment; he was killed in the Battle of Chickamauga on September 20, 1863. In the letter he discusses recent troop movements and battles, including fighting at Bridgeport and Stevenson, Alabama. He mentions property confiscated by Northern troops, which the Confederate forces recovered. He was able to get some paper, books, and clothing from the "heap of things thar the yanks left," but a lot of the local structures and crops had been destroyed. He adds that most of the local residents "tuke the oath not to fight aginst" the Union troops. Jones then discusses sickness in the camp (though "God has blest mee with the best of helth").
