description During the Civil War, Riggs served in Company G of the 27th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. In the letter he describes the lodging and food in the camp: "Our camps are on the side of a mountain which makes it very unpleasant but still our houses are very warm, and as for rations we get enough to make out with very will but it is very course beef and corn bread and some times a little bacon but the bacon is scarce." He also mentions a recent snowfall and recounts the snowball fight that took place in the camp: "It was quite a masing [sic] to see the boys charge each other and after the boys had as much sport as they could with them selves our division went and charged Stevenson Division several was captured but soon exchange no damage was done."
