Summary: | During the Civil War, Riggs served in Company G of the 27th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. In the letter he discusses unconfirmed reports about Confederate successes, which he doubts to be true: "...have just heard that General Bragg had taken Buel [sic] and all his forces that is the report the telegraph dispatch gave last night. Also that Stonewall Jackson had taken the city of Washington and General Kirby Smith was in Cincinatti [sic] oh if that is only true what a glorious thing it would be. But I fear it is not true I hope it is for I am getting tired of war and not only myself but numbers of others." He also tells her of several men in the camp her were "poison on buttermilk." |
