In the letter to Sallie he explains that he is ill again after having just been released from the hospital, and he mentions an anticipated battle with General Buell in Chattanooga: "They are making preparations every day for a battle up here at the hospital where I am they are putting up tents every day they have already put up some thing near three hundred which is for the benefit of the wounded it is reported that Buel [sic] is in sixteen miles of Chattanooga I have no doubt but what they will be a battle here before many days." In the letter to Ferde he discusses his health, the battle with Buell, and twenty dollars he is enclosing. In the letter to Martha he gives details about his health and the high cost of food in the area. |
