Summary:During the Civil War, Moore served as a colonel of the 11th Alabama Infantry Regiment. In the letter he discusses troop movements; conditions in camp ("The whole army is without tents & provisions have been scarce"); recent fighting with Union forces; and morale among the soldiers ("Altho' falling back before the enemy our confidence is not shaken"). He also sends instructions for the overseer of his plantation and asks about his son's plans for military service.
