description During the Civil War, Moore served as a colonel of the 11th Alabama Infantry Regiment. In the letter he mentions current troop movements and expresses pride in the soldiers serving under his command: "We marched thro' the streets today & presented a soil worn & dirty appearance - The men seemed to think they presented a bad appearance - tho' I told them they looked like true soldiers & felt prouder of them than if dressed in holiday attire." He also discusses recent speculation about the end of the war: "I send you a late English paper in which the opinion is expressed that the war will soon end. Men have lately written from the North & expressed this opinion - for the reason that the Yankees are getting tired of their heavy expenses. I do hope this may be true on yr account, for I know you w'd be so rejoiced to see it at an end."
