Summary:Most of the act deals with the punishment of slaves who have violated the law. Possible offenses include running away; gaming; stealing; selling merchandise; carrying weapons; drinking alcohol; "assembling in great numbers...and drumming or making other noise"; "feasting or meeting together in numbers in the night time"; and staying out late without permission. The act also gives penalties for people who assist or exploit slaves; explains the process for trying "Free Negroes Mulattoes Indians or Mustees"; and stipulates that "no Slave shall be made free by becoming a Christian."
