Description
Summary:The subcommittee was investigating the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA; the members contacted Strickland because the Alabama Legislative Commission to Preserve the Peace had already produced a report on the Council. In the first letter, dated October 2, 1964, three committee members ask for details about the alleged Communist affiliation of Harry F. Ward, who helped found the Methodist Federation for Social Action in 1907. In the second letter, dated January 4, 1965, Daniel Jones again asks for the information about Ward because he has had no response from Strickland. In the third letter, dated January 6, 1965, Strickland apologizes for the delay but explains that the matter had required extensive research; apparently a report on Ward was originally enclosed with the letter.
